The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Cape Town has an international reputation for excellence in research and teaching in all major fields of civil engineering, including structural engineering, construction materials, geotechnical engineering, hydraulic engineering, water quality engineering, urban water management and transportation studies.
Applications are invited for a full-time academic post in hydraulic engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students. The successful candidate is also expected to establish a strong research program in collaboration with associated disciplines within the Department and beyond and contribute to the Department and Faculty's outreach and external engagement.
Applicants at the Lecturer level should hold a BSc (Civil Eng) degree and a MSc (Eng) degree in Civil Engineering, with some industry experience. A PhD, evidence of a research record, and teaching experience will be an advantage.
Applicants at the Senior Lecturer level should hold a BSc (Civil Eng) degree and a MSc (Eng) degree in Civil Engineering and a PhD degree or hold a BSc (Civil Eng) degree and a MSc (Eng) degree in Civil Engineering with at least six years of professional experience. A good research record and teaching experience will be an advantage.
Applicants at the Associate Professor level should hold a BSc (Civil Eng) degree, a MSc (Eng) degree in Civil Engineering and a PhD degree specialising in the relevant field. In addition, applicants should have a strong research, teaching record and experience in supervising research. Professional experience will be an advantage.
