Senior Lecturer/Lecturer : Emergency Medical Care and Rescue

Department of Emergency Medical Care and Rescue

Minimum Requirements:
Senior Lecturer

  • A PhD in Emergency Medical Care or equivalent 
  • At least 2 years operational experience as an Emergency Care Practitioner
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Emergency Care Practitioner
  • Evidence of Research participation and publications
  • Must have supervised at least 1 postgraduate student to completion

Lecturer

  • A Master’s Degree in Emergency Medical Care or equivalent   
  • At least 2 years operational experience as an Emergency Care Practitioner 
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) as an Emergency Care Practitioner

Additional Recommendation

  • Experience in e-learning
  • Computer literacy in MS Word, PowerPoint and Internet usage

Summary of Duties:
Teaching and Learning

  • Provide and facilitate teaching and learning and assessment
  • Ensures that teaching and learning complies with quality standards
  • Develop and applies innovative teaching techniques, methods and materials
  • Use appropriate learning support and assessment methods
  • Be responsible for setting and monitoring standards and working to agreed work plans and timescales
  • Develops learning materials and course content, to ensure continuity in relevance and maintenance of quality
  • Contribute to the planning and design of course content
  • Identify areas in need of revision or improvement
  • Regular review and updating of course and module content 

Student consultation

  • Lecturer to be available for student consultation

Research

  • Involvement in research activities
  • Extend, transforms and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to teaching and appropriate external activity
  • Develop, contribute and produce and generate new knowledge through research outputs

Community Engagement

  • Involvement in community engagement programs
  • Engages in partnership with civil society, Community Outreach Unit, organisations, NGOs, CBOs in advancing the Department’s relevance through contact with communities with object of providing development, exchanges and support.

Academic Administration

  • Participate in academic administration eg Contribute to student admissions, timetabling, examinations
