The Department of Information Systems (IS) in the Faculty of Commerce is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor for a full-time permanent position.

The Department of Information Systems offers a range of qualifications and courses, accommodating students from 1st year to PhD levels. For more information about the IS Department please see http://www.commerce.uct.ac.za/InformationSystems/Pages/Welcome.

Minimum requirements for Lecturer level:

  • Master's degree in Information Systems (or related discipline) PLUS evidence of active registration or study for a PhD in Information Systems
  • Prior experience in an academic role
  • Expertise and teaching experience in the areas of Business Analysis/Systems Analysis and/or Systems Development Projects and/or Information Security

Minimum requirements for Senior Lecturer level:

  • Master's degree in Information Systems (or related discipline) PLUS evidence of active registration or study for a PhD in Information Systems
  • Prior experience in an academic role and a proven record of accredited research publications
  • Expertise and teaching experience in the areas of Business Analysis/Systems Analysis and/or Systems Development Projects and/or Information Security

Minimum requirements for Associate Professor level:

  • PhD in Information Systems (or related discipline)
  • Prior experience in an academic role and a proven record of high quality, high impact accredited research publications
  • Expertise and teaching experience in the areas of Business Analysis/Systems Analysis and/or Systems Development Projects and/or Information Security

Practical work experience in an Information Systems/Information Technology role will be an advantage.

Responsibilities:

  • Lecture on Information Systems courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Supervise postgraduate students on research projects (e.g. Honours, Masters, PhD etc)
  • Conduct academic research in Information Systems on problems relevant to the local South African and broader African context
  • Disseminate knowledge through publication of research in various outlets (e.g., journal articles, full paper peerreviewed conference papers, peer-reviewed books and book chapters, etc.)
  • Contribute to leadership and/or administration roles at course, departmental, Faculty and/or University level, as appropriate to the job level
  • Use academic skills to provide service to bodies outside of the university (e.g. professional society, government agency, NGO, community group, etc.)

Lecturer: R639 848

Senior Lecturer: R786 717

Associate Professor : R938 204
