Minimum Requirements

  • A  Degree in Public Relations, Marketing or Communications
  • 5 years relevant experience in event/conference and PR management
  • Excellent Microsoft office skills
  • Experience in liaising with senior management and with distinguished persons/events
  • The ability to prepare budgets, interpret income and expenditure statements
  • Ability to work after hours, demonstrate ability to work under pressure and according to tight deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, negotiation and conflict managing capabilities
  • Proficient in Social Media application such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.
  • Drivers licence, Code 08, unendorsed

Additional Recommendations

  • Experience in the preparation of budgets and the monitoring of expenditure
  • Knowledge of university structures and systems
  • Participation in or working knowledge of academic ceremonies
  • Public Speaking

Summary of Duties

  • To support Manager/Marketing/Public Relations and Events in planning and executing events and conferences and academic ceremonies
  • Ensuring that all guests coming to the University are managed within protocol
  • To be responsible for the functions/events e.g. Projects, events, conference management including graduation ceremonies
  • Responsible for marketing, media exposure, assist with direct internal/external marketing
  • Responsible for Exhibitions
  • Liaises internally and externally with all DUT’s publics
  • Implement the Public Relations campaign for the DUT
  • Organise staff events
  • Initiate new projects to support the branding of DUT
  • Financial management of the unit which includes ensuring that the unit functions within the budget
  • Prepare public relations operational plan e.g. events calendar,
  • Research and networking
  • Researches and profiles significant personalities in academia/society e.g. guest speakers for functions and events
  • Organises and conducts campus tours as directed by the Director of Corporate Affairs e.g. for visiting dignitaries
  • Arranges, coordinates the setting up of all public lectures/inaugural lectures
  • Continually updates list of frequent contacts and key public profiles
  • Helps the Manager in achieving the goals and objectives of the department and the university
