  • Academic leadership in GIT;
  • Academic programme development;
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in GIT and related modules (e.g. Mathematics and Surveying);
  • Postgraduate supervision in the application of GIT in human or environmental geographical research;
  • Running a productive research programme of GIT application in environmental studies, urban geography, tourism and earth science disciplines;
  • Publication of research results in accredited journals and presenting results at conferences;
  • Securing research funding;
  • Active participation in all departmental activities and research projects;
  • Academic interaction with the community.

Job Requirements:

  • A master's degree in geomatics/geoinformatics;
  • Growing academic profile in GIT;
  • Ability to lecture in surveying methods and theory;
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate students in GIT research;
  • A record of research and scientific publication in GIT application;
  • Excellent communication and language skills in English (ability to communicate in other South African languages will be an added advantage).


  • A doctorate in geomatics/geoinformatics;
  • Professional qualifications/registrations in geomatics;
  • Experience as a surveying practitioner;
  • Strong understanding of mathematics and geodesy.
