We seek to attract a suitably experienced and qualified individual to the post of Senior Proposal Development Specialist, located in the Research Office. The ideal candidate could either be an experienced proposal writer or a seasoned academic with a strong track record in attracting large research grants, who seeks to take on a full-time professional proposal development role. The purpose of this position is to enable and enhance the submission of competitive funding proposals by UCT's established researchers and the Research Office for large, often interdisciplinary and / or transdisciplinary grants to mostly international agencies.

Requirements:
  • PhD
  • At least 5 years' work experience in proposal development, including:
        •Experience in academic writing and/or grant-writing.
        •Proven ability to write and coordinate grant proposals with a successful track record.
        •Experience particularly in applying for international funding, with a proven track record.
        •Experience working for a higher education institution, research council, research funder or other relevant research organisation.
        •Advanced brokering and project management experience.
Advantages:
  • Experience in writing and coordinating grant proposals in the capacity of a grant-writer or equivalent, with a successful track record.
  • Experience as a reviewer for international grant agencies.
  • Experience in applying to, or administering proposals for, one or more of the following funding bodies: UK Research & Innovation (UKRI), Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), European Union (EU) or National Institutes of Health (NIH).
  • Experience of a leadership role in multi-stakeholder, interdisciplinary research.
  • Staff supervision experience.
Responsibilities:
  • Project managing the development and submission of major research grant proposals to international agencies.
  • Identifying high impact international funding opportunities for established researchers, particularly for multiand trans-disciplinary grants.
  • Managing and providing guidance to one or more international grants coordinators.
  • Building strong relationships with international research funding agencies.
  • Providing grant-writing support for researchers inexperienced in writing international funding proposals.

The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is between R781 328 and R919 208.
