Lecturer

The Department of Political Science is a dynamic, research-driven unit with a focus on the political challenges faced by South Africa and the broader African continent. Through comprehensive research programmes, the Department has developed expertise in a wide spectrum of international, African and domestic politics. The Department provides high-level theoretical and analytical training in a variety of subfields of Political Science, with a particular focus on public policy analysis, political risk analysis, political behaviour and survey research, foreign policy analysis, global governance, and conflict and peace studies in Africa.

Duties:

  • Academic programme development;
  • Teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate level in Political Science and related modules;
  • Postgraduate supervision in fields related to Political Science;
  • Publishing research results in accredited journals and presenting results at conferences;
  • Active participation in all departmental activities and research projects;
  • Academic interaction with the community.

Job Requirements:

  • MA degree in Political Science/International Studies, registered and working towards a PhD in Political Science;
  • Experience in teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate levels, specifically Conflict and Security studies;
  • Experience in supervision on postgraduate level, specifically supervision on MA level in Conflict and Security Studies;
  • A growing publication record in peer reviewed accredited journals;
  • Proven planning and administrative skills;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • The ability to accommodate multiculturalism.

Recommendation:

  • A PhD in Political Science;
  • Knowledge of current developments in the field of Political Science and International Studies;
  • The ability to work under pressure.
