Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop learning and teaching material for nursing modules.
  • Coordinate allocated theory and practical modules.
  • Facilitate learning and teaching activities in theory and practice.
  • Engage in internal and external assessments.
  • Demonstrate scholarship through postgraduate research supervision, research, academic presentations and publications.
  • Contribute toward the continued growth of the programmes through innovative teaching and learning, student recruitment and retention

Inherent requirements:

  • PhD in Nursing (NQF level 10).
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a professional nurse (General, Psychiatry, Community Health), Midwifery and Nursing Education [or equitable qualifications in the case of Nursing Education].
  • Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.
  • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
  • An NRF rating or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
  • Proven experience in supervision of graduated masters’ students
  • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
  • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency.

Required competencies:

  • Proficiency in MS Word and other Microsoft software, such as Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to function in a diverse working environment.
  • The ability to function independently as well as in a team when required.
  • Good organization skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • A good work ethic and to instil this in others.
