  • A ten minute presentation on the candidates academic and vision and the contribution the candidate can bring to the department

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Contribute towards creating a strong academic and artistic identity for the department.
  • Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate theoretical and practical modules in Drama and Theatre Arts.
  • Provide study guidance and supervision to final year and postgraduate students.
  • Initiate and conduct high-level research and sustain quality research outputs.
  • Initiate and conduct high-level artistic outputs and sustain quality artistic outputs.
  • Co-plan and co-coordinate high-level artistic outputs in the artistic programme of the department.
  • Contribute to programme development and curriculum review within the department and Faculty.
  • Participate in community engagement initiatives where possible.
  • Recruit senior students for postgraduate study.
  • Perform organisational and administrative duties.
  • Participate in departmental managerial activities.
  • Serve as Chair of the department for a 5 year period, if required.
  • Participate in academic and professional artistic programmes on national and international levels as required.

Inherent requirements:

Senior Lecturer:

  • PhD (NQF level 10) in Drama and Theatre Arts or applicable field (or proof of registration and indication of status of completion of the PhD).
  • Three (3) year’s academic experience at tertiary level and proven artistic experience in Drama and Theatre Arts or related field.
  • Proven experience in teaching academic undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Drama and Theatre Arts.
  • Proven experience in teaching practical work in Drama and Theatre Arts and directing theatre productions/projects on undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
  • Proven experience in the presentation of papers at national scholarly conferences.
  • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research and in artistic outputs in a specific area of scholarship.
  • An NRF rating or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
  • Proven experience in supervision of graduated masters’ students.
  • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals and/or a proven record of artistic outputs at National Arts Festivals.
  • Experience within Drama and Theatre Arts theoretical and practical assessments.
  • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly and/or artistic society or committee or agency concerned with research and/or artistic outputs at higher education and/or professional artistic levels.

Associate Professor:

  • PhD (NQF level 10) in Drama and Theatre Arts or applicable field.
  • Five (5) year’s academic experience at tertiary level and proven artistic experience in Drama and Theatre Arts or related field.
  • Proven experience in teaching academic undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Drama and Theatre Arts.
  • Proven experience in teaching practical work in Drama and Theatre Arts and directing theatre productions/projects on undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
  • Experience as external examiner for postgraduate students.
  • Proven experience in the presentation of research papers at national conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers.
  • Proven experience in the presentation of artistic outputs at National Arts Festivals, where there is evidence of peer review of outputs, either by selection or reviews.
  • Act as an editorial board member of high-quality national scholarly journals and/or serve as artistic board or artistic panels for selection of artistic outputs. .
  • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research and/or artistic leadership in a specific  area of scholarship.
  • An NRF rating of C3 or equivalent professional status in the entertainment industry that relates to Drama and Theatre Arts or applicable field.
  • Proven experience in the supervision of graduated masters’students.
  • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals and/or a proven record of artistic outputs at national or international levels .
  • Experience in Drama and Theatre Arts theoretical and practical assessments.
  • Serve as a member of a national scholarly society and/or artistic OR a national committee or agency concerned with research and/or artistic outputs at higher education and/or professional artistic levels, OR show evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.

Professor:

  • PhD (NQF level 10) in Drama and Theatre Arts or applicable field.
  • Five (5) year’s academic experience at tertiary level and proven artistic experience in Drama and Theatre Arts or related field.
  •  Proven experience in teaching academic undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Drama and Theatre Arts.
  • Proven experience in teaching practical work in Drama and Theatre Arts and directing theatre productions/projects on undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
  • Experience as external examiner for masters’ and doctoral students.
  • Act as editorial board member of high-quality international/ISI/IBSS journals.
  • Proven international recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a particular area of academic scholarship (e.g. regularly serves as a reviewer for international/ISI/IBSS journals).
  • An NRF rating of C1 or C2 or equivalent status.
  • Demonstrated successful supervision of graduated master's and preferably graduated doctoral students.
  • Proven experience in delivering keynote addresses at national scholarly conferences.
  • Serve as a member of an international scholarly society OR an international committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.
  • Serve as a member of a national/international scholarly and/or artistic society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research and/or artistic outputs at higher education and/or professional artistic levels, OR show evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.

Recommendations:

  • Lecturing experience in Drama and Theatre Arts or related field at a tertiary institution.
  • Experience in teaching and practicing Applied Theatre
  • Active involvement in the Theatre industry
  • Record of attendance and participation at national or international conferences.
  • Academic and/or artistic awards.
  • An NRF rating.

Assumption of duties: 1 December 2019.
