Duties and responsibilities:

  • Act as Research and Development Engineer for the merSETA Green Manufacturing Index and High Performance Engineering Materials programmes.
  • Perform other administrative duties, as well as lecturing relevant modules, as designated by the Head of the Department.
  • Comply with and implement all relevant university and faculty policies.

Inherent requirements:

  • M.Eng degree on NQF level 9 in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • A good academic record.

Required competencies:

  • Skills in relevant modelling platforms, e.g. Autodesk Inventor and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
  • Diverse project management experience.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function well in the university's parallel medium and richly diverse working environment.
  • Business acumen.
  • Result orientated.
  • Strategic thinking.
  • Building coalitions.
  • Leading.


  • Expertise in thermal energy storage will serve as a strong recommendation.
  • Mechatronic engineering background will serve as a strong recommendation.

Assumption of duties: 1 March 2020

Closing date: 17 November 2019.

Salary: The salary scale is available on request.
