  • A 1-2 page teaching statement/ philosophy that demonstrates excellence and innovation in teaching and learning;
  • A 1-2 page research statement/ philosophy that demonstrates excellence in research, and details the candidate's research plans.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide and facilitate teaching, learning, and assessments.
  • Develop learning material and course content to ensure continuity in relevance and maintenance of quality.
  • Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery, and obtaining as well as analysing feedback.
  • Be involved in the programmes of the department, school and faculty.
  • Develop a research programme as evidenced by publications and presentations.
  • Produce on average one (1) SAPSE/ISI journal article per two (2) year cycle.
  • Keep up with new developments by continuously improving own knowledge and expertise in field of specialisation.
  • Develop links with relevant industries and external bodies.
  • Maintain own professional registration, if applicable.
  • Comply with and implement all relevant university and faculty policies.
  • Serve on department, faculty and university wide bodies as applicable.
  • Perform other administrative duties as designated by the head of the school/ department.

Inherent requirements:

  • B.Eng. or BSc on NQF level 8 in Engineering (agricultural/ civil/ mechanical) plus two (2) years' relevant industry experience.

OR

  • M.Eng or MSc on NQF level 9 in Engineering (agricultural/ civil/ mechanical) or MSc/PhD (NQF level 9/10) in related discipline (Physics, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics).

Required competencies:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function well in the university's parallel medium and richly diverse working environment.
  • At least two year of academic / industrial / research experience.
  • Ability to lecture and transfer information effectively.
  • Business acumen.
  • Result orientated.
  • Strategic thinking.
  • Building coalitions.
  • Leading.

Recommendations:

  • Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience in engineering education.

Assumption of duties: 1 January 2020 or as soon as possible.
