Manager: Health and Safety

To provide effective health, safety and environment services to KwaDlangezwa and Richards Bay campuses of the UNIZULU and ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHS Act 85 of 1993), the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COID Act) and applicable Fire Safety and Environment regulations.

The incumbent will have responsibility over health and safety issues within the University.

  • Provide leadership with regard to the rendering of quality Safety, Health and Environment Services.
  • Ensure effective functioning of the department to ensure achievement of its objectives.
  • Policy review and development.
  • Policy Implementation:
        ✓ Safety Training & Awareness
        ✓ Fire Prevention & Control
        ✓ Evacuation Controls
        ✓ Safety
        ✓ Occupational Injuries
        ✓ Troubleshooting
  • Customer Advice and Support.
  • Health and safety systems management.
  • Representing the Health & Safety function at appropriate internal and external forums.


  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Safety Management, Public Management or Disaster Management, IT or engineering).
  • Relevant NOSA / DEKRA registered Diploma / Certificate e.g. SAMTRAC / SHEMTRAC Safety Training Course.
  • Driving licence.


  • Three (3) years experience in occupational health & safety industry at a supervisory level
  • Project management
  • Experience within Higher Education will be an advantage but not a prerequisite.
