We invite applications for a position of Professor / Associate Professor in the Department of Private Law within the Faculty of Law for appointment from (as soon as possible).

We wish to appoint a candidate, preferably a Black South African, with proven ability or clear potential to be an academic leader who desires to be part of a Faculty in which a critical, doctrinal and comparative approach to the study of the law is valued.

Requirements:
  • For appointment at associate professorial level a PhD degree will be a strong advantage
  • A strong academic record
  • Significant experience of and a strong commitment to teaching at tertiary level (specifically in the LLB programme)
  • A strong publication record demonstrating the existence of a defined body of work
  • Proven ability or potential to assume the position of Head of Department, should this become necessary
  • Ability / willingness to teach some of the following subjects: the Law of Succession; Jurisprudence; the Law of Delict; Systems and Context; Foundations of South African Law; Unjustified Enrichment
  • Ability and willingness to supervise postgraduate students
Responsibilities
  • Teaching courses offered by the Department of Private Law, which include core compulsory courses offered in the LLB programme at preliminary and intermediate year levels; as well as specialized courses at the Masters' level
  • The development of skills (writing and learning) for law students;
  • Research and publication commensurate to the expectations at senior academic level;
  • Departmental and faculty administration (including leadership functions)
  • Supervision of postgraduate students

The annual remuneration packages, including benefits for 2020 excluding scarcity allowance
