We invite applications for one position in the Department of Private Law within the Faculty of Law for appointment from (as soon as possible). The position may be filled at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer.

We wish to appoint a candidate, preferably a Black South African, with clear potential to become an academic leader, who desires to be part of a Faculty in which a critical, doctrinal and comparative approach to the study of the law is valued.

Requirements: At both levels, the ability / willingness to teach some of the following subjects is required: the Law of Succession; Jurisprudence; the Law of Delict; Systems and Context; Foundations of South African Law; Unjustified Enrichment

Senior Lecturer

  • At least an LLM degree; although a PhD degree will be a strong advantage;
  • A strong academic record
  • Teaching experience at tertiary level, particularly in the fields mentioned
  • A strong research record, as demonstrated by an emerging body of work

Lecturer

  • At least an LLM degree and a strong academic record
  • Teaching experience at tertiary level, particularly in the fields mentioned, will be an advantage
  • Some previous research publications
Responsibilities:
  • Teaching courses offered by the Department of Private Law, which include core compulsory courses offered to in the LLB programme at preliminary and intermediate year levels; with potential involvement at the Masters' level
  • The development of skills (writing and learning) for law students;
  • Research and publication commensurate to the expectations at level of appointment;
  • Departmental and faculty administration.
  • Supervision of postgraduate students

The annual remuneration packages, including benefits for 2020 is as follow:

Lecturer: R730 510

Senior Lecturer: R887 294
