The University of Zululand invites applications for the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor: Teaching and Learning.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor will have a university-wide portfolio with the specific aim of advancing the University’s strategic goals and objectives in relation to teaching and learning. Since the portfolio is cross-cutting, the incumbent will work closely with other stakeholders in the institution, including Senate, and will be part of the Executive Management team. Whilst reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the incumbent will provide leadership to and develop the institutional vision for planning, organising and directing all functional areas of teaching and learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A full Professor with an earned doctoral degree;

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Established teaching and research track record;
  • Evidence of management experience at senior levels in a higher education institution;
  • Understanding of and commitment to the strategic transformation needs in the higher education landscape;
  • Ten (10) years’ experience of working and teaching in the higher education environment, including at least five (5) years of increasingly complex responsibility in a leadership position at faculty or institutional level.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • A thorough understanding of the national higher education system, policies and dynamics
  • Ability to present the University at strategic level discussions and negotiations in the higher education sector as well as the ability to portray a positive image of the University
  • An outstanding track record of integrity, strong leadership qualities, a proven record of a successful academic career in higher education and sensitivity to the challenges generally faced by the University community
  • Excellent communication skills and passion for the University’s mission of becoming a leading comprehensive university, providing quality education

An ability to combine firm management and a harmonious relationship with academic colleagues and students;

The appointment is for a fixed term of five (5) years and may be extended subject to mutual consent. A competitive remuneration package will be offered.
