Duties and responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate certificate modules in Sesotho Education and other foundational modules in education.
  • Participate in the Work Integrated Learning programme of the Faculty (teaching practice).
  • Ensure active involvement in research activities of the Faculty.
  • Contribute to curriculum development in the field of Sesotho Education specifically, and Languages Education in general.
  • Supervise and provide consultation sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Work in a team with colleagues within the Faculty.
  • Contribute to leadership and administrative tasks related to the Faculty.
Inherent requirements:
  • A relevant Master's degree on NQF level 9 with a strong focus on Sesotho Language Education (provide proof of registration for a PhD with a focus on Sesotho Education).
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' teaching experience in a post-school education environment or five (5) years' teaching experience in a school context.
  • A good academic record (attach copy).
  • A recognized teaching qualification on NQF 7 (i.e. must be a qualified teacher).
Required competencies:
Business Acumen:
  • Knowledge of- and the ability to use Learning Management Systems (LMS) for teaching and assessment.
  • Good computer literacy skills.
Strategic Thinking:
  • Familiarity with inclusive pedagogic practices and alternative assessment strategies.
  • Good research skills and writing abilities.
Building Coalitions:
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • The ability to function well in the university's richly diverse working environment.
  • Doctoral degree in Sesotho Education or willingness to enroll for a Doctoral degree in Sesotho Education at the first available opportunity, if not yet obtained by the time of appointment.
  • Proven research record of relevant publications in national accredited journals
  • Evidence of previous involvement in engaged scholarship.
  • Experience in postgraduate supervision.
