The position is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training under the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) and the successful candidate will be subject to the terms and conditions of the programme whilst being a permanent staff member of the University of the Free State. Duties and responsibilities:
  • Training of undergraduate students in medicine on midwifery and normal obstetrics through formal teaching and practical training sessions.
  • Organise, supervise and support students in the clinical settings.
  • Perform high quality research to improve health professional training relating to maternity.
  • Perform general administrative duties as applicable at university.
  • Liaise with the school of Nursing to close the gap between medicine and nursing regarding the midwifery training platform. .
  • Assist with the maintenance and operation of the departmental research.
Inherent requirements:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing on NQF level 8 and a Master's degree on NQF level 9 in Advanced Midwifery.
  • An excellent academic record with a minimum of 70% mark for the Master's degree (attach academic record).
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Counsel as an Advanced Midwife.
  • Required to enrol for a PhD at first available opportunity after appointment, if PhD not already obtained or not already enrolled for a PhD by the time of appointment.
Recommendations:
  • A PhD (NQF level 10) in nursing or closely related discipline.
  • Experience in undergraduate and or postgraduate lecturing.
  • Expertise in research methodology.

Salary:
The salary scale is available on request.
