Duties and responsibilities:
  • Facilitate and assess student learning and development in under- and/or postgraduate modules in the field of Accountancy (e.g. Financial Accounting; Managerial Accounting and Finance; Taxation; and/or Accounting Information Systems).
  • Take a leadership role in the recurriculation of the Accountancy modules / programmes to respond to the requirements of professional accountancy bodies (e.g. SAICA's CA2025 Competency Framework) and the changing world of work (e.g. due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution).
  • Contribute to the advancement of the pedagogical practices followed in the School of Accountancy.
  • Supervise postgraduate students with their Honours, Masters or PhD theses or research projects.
  • Conduct research and publish in accredited journals.
  • Attend and speak at conferences, research colloquia, workshops, and seminars in order to disseminate research and discipline knowledge.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant research community, the accountancy profession, and professional bodies to establish collaborations and partnerships.
  • Contribute to the coordination and management of the academic, research and engagement activities of the School.
  • Mentor junior staff to achieve their academic/career goals.
  • Serve on School, Faculty and University-wide structures.
Inherent requirements:

Associate Professor:

  • A relevant Doctoral degree on NQF level 10 OR a Chartered Accountant (SA) holding a Masters in Accountancy and possessing an excellent track record of academic leadership in professional programmes;
  • Has a national reputation as an active researcher in accountancy;
  • Regularly makes quality contributions to the advancement of knowledge; and
  • Has successfully supervised and examined the research undertaken by postgraduate students.


  • A relevant Doctoral degree on NQF level 10;
  • Has a national / international reputation as a leading researcher in accountancy;
  • Is making sustained, major contributions to knowledge of outstanding quality; and
  • Has successfully supervised and examined the research undertaken by Masters and Doctoral students.

  • Extensive experience in the facilitation of student learning in a professional accountancy education environment.
  • Possess a NRF rating of C3 or equivalent.
  • Is willing to contribute in a proactive and collegial manner to the strategic projects of the School of Accountancy.
  • Is willing to be a member of the management team of the School of Accountancy.
  • Associate Professor: Demonstrates excellent potential to obtain a PhD if not already obtained.

Assumption of duties: 1 January or as soon as possible thereafter.
