The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educates the students across academic units including Accounting, Economics, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development (ISD), Political Studies, School of Business & Finance, School of Government (including Public Administration) and the Academic Literacies Programme. 

The discipline of finance is undergoing a rapid change. The Faculty is currently in the process of revamping its finance offerings, and assembling a team of academics in various areas of finance. 

The successful candidates for Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in the Finance Cluster will be responsible for the following key performance areas:
  • Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in risk management & modelling, corporate finance, asset markets and pricing
  • Conduct research and publish in risk management & modelling, corporate finance, asset markets and pricing
  • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
  • Provide academic leadership and administration
  • Undertake curriculum development and assessment
  • Participate in community engagement and outreach
  • Other related duties assigned by the chair of the department
Minimum Requirements - Associate Professor:
  • PhD or equivalent, preferably in the field of finance or economics
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching, preferably in the field of risk management & modelling, corporate finance, asset markets and pricing 
  • A track record of quality peer reviewed publications, preferably in the field of risk management & modelling, corporate finance, asset markets and pricing
  • A record of successful postgraduate supervision
  • The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research
  • Evidence of expertise, national standing, and preferably an international presence in his/her discipline.
Minimum Requirements - Senior Lecturer:
  • PhD or equivalent, preferably in the field of finance or economics
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching, preferably in the field of risk management & modelling, corporate finance, asset markets and pricing 
  • A record of publications, preferably in the field of risk management & modelling, corporate finance, asset markets and pricing

  • Technical professional knowledge and skills in the discipline and in the core strategic areas, namely learning and teaching, research and scholarship, community engagement as well as professional leadership

Preference will be given to applicants who meet the requirements for the positions at Associate Professor level.
