Duties and responsibilities:

  • Research and analyse models of teaching, learning and assessment theories and best practices.
  • Assist with the design and maintenance of the health professions education programmes on the UFS learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard).
  • Prepare post programme summaries analysing cost, attendance, successes, and areas for improvement and communicate this to the division.
  • Participate where requested in the faculty during information I staff development sessions.
  • Postgraduate Education: develop postgraduate modules in the Health Professions Programme in consultation with the Head, taking into account the candidate's field of expertise; develop and revise modules in a team context; provide study guidance to Master's students (mini-dissertations and dissertations) in the Health Professions Education Programme with emphasis on online application as well as PhD students (if the successful candidate has a PhD qualification in a relevant health sciences education field).
  • Expert input while evaluating research projects (protocols).
  • Provide academic support and development to postgraduate students.
  • Instructional inputs to working groups, committees, and information sessions provided to academic staff
  • Plan, manage and execute research projects.
  • Conduct research with regard to health professions education with the aim to gather information and keep abreast of developments in this field.

Inherent requirements:

  • A Master's degree on NQF level 9 in Health Professions Education or Health Sciences Education or Higher Education relevant to Health Sciences Education.
  • Professionally qualified in a Health Sciences discipline and a minimum of three (3) years' work experience (excluding internship or community service).
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • Evidence of peer-reviewed published manuscripts in accredited journals.
  • A good academic record.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in postgraduate teaching / supervision / lecturing / staff development/ research / academic support and development.

Recommendations:

  • Willingness to enrol for a doctoral degree in Health Professions Education at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment.
  • Registration with the HPCSA where applicable.
