Duties and responsibilities:
  • Pursue an active best practice-informed scholarship of teaching and learning in construction management, quantity surveying, property and/or and project management areas (undergraduate and postgraduate)
  • Supervise (undergraduate and postgraduate) students' research (depending on level of appointment)
  • Mentor colleagues and students (dependent on level)
  • Design, develop and implement new programmes and/or changes in existing programmes
  • Compile and manage construction management, quantity surveying, project management and/or property studies accreditation documentation in consultation with the academic departmental head
  • Conduct sustained research of national and international significance and deliver conference papers and publish articles
  • Develop and maintain links with other tertiary institutions, professional bodies, student alumni and industry stakeholders
  • Co-ordinate department research (dependent on level)
  • Write research grant proposals and secure research funding
  • Develop, improve and market the construction management, quantity surveying, project management and property studies programmes
  • Undertake university engaged scholarly activities
  • Participate in departmental academic administrative tasks
  • Serve and actively participate on university and faculty committees
  • Represent the department on various platforms and use one's knowledge and experience to bolster the profile and brand of the department, faculty and the university.
Inherent requirements:

Lecturer:

  • A Master's degree on NQF level 9 in a relevant Built environment field preceded by an honours or equivalent degree on NQF level 8 in Construction Management or Quantity Surveying or Building Science or Property Studies.
  • A good academic record.
  • Agreeable to register for a relevant doctoral degree programme one (1) year after being employed and complete the studies within the required period set for the degree.
  • Work experience in academia or practice.
  • At least 1 publication or evidence of a manuscript produced that has potential to be converted and/or submitted for publication.

Senior Lecturer:

  • A PhD on NQF level 10 in a relevant Built environment field preceded by a Master's degree on NQF level 9 and an honours or equivalent degree on NQF level 8 in Construction Management or Quantity Surveying or Building Science or Property Studies.
  • Evidence of experience and excellence in teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate including postgraduate supervision up to doctoral level and curriculum and/or programme development.
  • A proven research profile of discipline-specific peer reviewed publications over a sustained period of time, in national and international accredited journals of high impact.
  • Proven experience in the presentation of papers at both national and international scholarly conferences.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in providing academic leadership including mentoring students and colleagues and/or championing programme accreditation.

Associate Professor:

  • A PhD on NQF level 10 in a relevant Built environment field preceded by a Master's degree on NQF level 9 and an honours or equivalent degree on NQF level 8 in Construction Management or Quantity Surveying or Building Science or Property Studies.
  • Evidence of experience and excellence in teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate. including postgraduate supervision up to doctoral level and curriculum and/or programme development.
  • Evidence of external examination of Master's dissertations and PhD theses.
  • A proven research profile of discipline-specific peer reviewed publications over a sustained period of time, in national and international accredited journals of high impact.
  • Proven experience in the presentation of papers at both national and international scholarly conferences.
  • An NRF rating or eligibility for rating or equivalent.
  • A good record and experience in scholarly engagement such as; being an active member of a national or international scholarly association, society or committee concerned with research or teaching and learning at tertiary level.

Recommendations:

Lecturer:

  • Already registered on a relevant doctoral degree programme.
  • Record of research publication outputs.
  • Experience in the presentation of papers at scholarly conferences or equivalent.
  • Teaching and learning experience
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies or ability to demonstrate that registration can be achieved with reasonable time.
  • Experience in scholarly engagements such as industry or community service.
  • Awareness of technological, environmental and socioeconomic issues in the built environment sector and the role of the university in addressing such.
  • Experience in teaching and learning and in administrative duties in a tertiary institution.

Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor:

  • Experience in successful programme accreditation management.
  • Experience in research conference organization.
  • Ability to generate external research income.
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies or ability to demonstrate that registration can be achieved with reasonable time.
  • Experience in scholarly engagements such as industry or community service and editorial roles in journals.
  • Awareness of technological, environmental and socioeconomic issues in the built environment sector and the role of the university in addressing such.
  • Experience in managing resources including people.
  • Experience in administrative duties in a tertiary institution.
