Duties and responsibilities:
  • Contribute towards creating a strong academic identity for the Department of History on the Qwaqwa Campus of the UFS.
  • Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate modules in History.
  • Provide study guidance and supervision to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Initiate and conduct high-level research and sustain quality research outputs.
  • Active participation and involvement in applicable Departmental, Faculty and institutional management structures.
  • Contribute to building an effective team of scholars.
  • Contribute to programme development and curriculum review within the Department and Faculty of the Humanities.
  • Participate in engaged scholarship.
  • Recruit students for postgraduate studies.
  • Perform organisational and administrative duties.
Inherent requirements:

Senior Lecturer:

  • PhD in History on NQF level 10.
  • Five (5) years relevant lecturing experience at tertiary level.
  • Experience in postgraduate supervision at Honours, Masters and PhD levels.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
  • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
  • A NRF rating or demonstrate the potential obtain a NRF rating within reasonable time.
  • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research as higher education levels.
  • Preparedness to serve as Subject Head of the Department of History on the Qwaqwa Campus of the UFS.

Lecturer:

  • Master's degree in History on NQF level 9.
  • Three (3) years relevant lecturing experience at tertiary level.
  • Experience in postgraduate supervision at Honours and master's levels.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
  • Preparedness to serve as Subject Head of the Department of History on the Qwaqwa Campus of the UFS
Recommendations:
  • Proven record of supervision of postgraduate students.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience as a departmental head/manager in a higher education context.
  • Experience in teaching with electronic management tools such as Blackboard.
  • Ability to conduct and publish quality research.

Assumption of duties: 01 September 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.
