The University of the Western Cape (UWC) enjoys national and international acclaim for its continuing contribution to democratic change in South Africa and for making quality education accessible to all South Africans and developing centres of excellence of national importance. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive Faculty dedicated to teaching and research, as well as to overall student development. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to the development of the Faculty. The post requires the incumbent to develop, grow and drive nursing related initiatives at UWC that are nationally and internationally recognised. The School of Nursing is the largest School in the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences with over 700 undergraduate and around 250 postgraduate students. The School offers the following SANC accredited programmes: Bachelor of Nursing undergraduate programme, 4 Postgraduate Diplomas (Nursing Education, Health Services Management, Midwifery and Primary Care Nursing, a research masters and PhD programme. The School consist of five divisions, namely, Academic Programs, Clinical and Community Engagement, Research, Academic Planning and Administration.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas:
- Coordinating activities for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
- Supervision of Masters level research if he/she holds a PhD.
- Teaching and learning at an undergraduate level and/or post graduate level.
- Participate in research programmes,
- Develop industry and academic partnerships.
- Engage in community outreach.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A Master's in Nursing or in a related Health discipline.
- Experience in teaching.
- Evidence of publication output.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse / Midwife / Community Health
- Nurse/Psychiatric Nurse.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nurse Educator.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council as an Assessor and Moderator.
An added advantage:
- The ideal candidate for this position should be a highly-motivated person progressing or registered for a PhD in Nursing.
- Experience in clinical supervision.
- An additional qualification in Primary Care Nursing.
Submission of a copy of your Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse / Midwife / Community Health Nurse/Psychiatric Nurse and Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nurse Educator is a necessity.
Please note that this position is part of the Joint Establishment, which refers to a formal collaborative agreement between the University and the Provincial Health Department. The appointed individual will be expected to engage in both academic responsibilities and service delivery, as per the collaborative agreement with the Provincial Health Department. This includes contributing to the clinical service delivery component, in line with the requirements of the service delivery model.
